Mr & Mrs Comrie originally worked with pigs
at Houston. However as a result of the UK
joining the common market with the good
possibility of pig prices falling, as a result they
decided to diversify.
Having show jumped for over 20 years they
decided to start a Riding School and become
full time teachers.
3 ponies were bought at Kelso horse sales on
14th October 1972 and Houston Farm Riding
School opened on 15th October 1972, having
gained permission for change of use and a
license to run the school from the council.
On 15th October we had the son and daughter
of the local Grocer and 3 other girls from Uphall. By the end of the first week we had
over 20 pupils and by mid December we bought 3 more ponies.
We have extended and expanded from there and now have 54 equines (ponies &
horses). We now teach every day of the week with a lighter work day on Thursdays.
Houston is approved by the ABRS.
We regularly teach clients from the Lothians, the
Borders, Edinburgh, Glasgow & Lanarkshire.
Over the years we have also taught many clients
from various countries around the world including
America, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Germany, France.
Scottish & British Champions are amongst the pupils we have taught over the years.
